Summer Finnigan, D.P.T.

Summer Finnigan was raised in the Maryland suburbs outside of Washington, D.C.  She attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD, graduating with a cumulative GPA above 4.0.  She was also one of the top runners in the Washington area for track and cross-country.  Her senior year, she was the third place overall finisher at the 4A state cross-country championships, and was named First Team All-Metropolitan.

She earned a full scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she studied Biology in preparation for Physical Therapy, and was a member of the Honors Program.  She was a Rhodes Scholar nominee, and was named Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.  She again became one of the fastest runners in the state for track and cross-country.  She was named the Individual Conference Champion and course record holder for cross country, and set school records in both the indoor and outdoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters events. She qualified for the National Track Championships in the Marathon, and went on to cover the 26.2 miles in three hours and twenty-nine minutes.

She was accepted to Duke University’s graduate program in Physical Therapy, and earned her Doctoral degree after three years of intensive study. She presented her thesis on The Efficacy of a Custom Wheelchair Seating System on Flexible Scoliosis in a Patient with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. During that time, she also taught aerobics and ran several road races, including marathons.

Summer recently moved to Staten Island and now joins the team at Rehabilitation Physical Therapy Associates in delivering quality patient care to residents of surrounding New York and New Jersey.
